New Project launched Be Aware Be Safe ( BABS )

People First Merseyside have started a new project called Be Aware Be Safe, called BABS for short. This project is supported by the Merseyside Police  Community Cash Back fund.

The project is about  different forms of abuse and people with learning disabilities. We will look at Domestic Abuse and Sexual Abuse and learn about how this affect adults with learning disabilities. We will also learn what people can do to stay safe and who can help if you are a victim.

After we have learnt about this, we will plan roadshows and deliver them to groups of people with learning disabilities across Merseyside. If you want us to come to your group please contact Karen on 0151 329 2137.

We have recruited a steering group and had two meetings. We talked about what the project will do and what we know about these subjects ;

Stephen said, ” I don’t know a lot about sexual abuse and I would like to know more so I can tell people how to stay safe”.

Cheryl said, ” It sound like a good idea and I would like to tell other people all about it”.

Antonia said, ” It’s a good idea and I think people with learning disabilities need to know all about this stuff”.

One member said, ” I am keen to share my own experiences so other people can learn more”.
