Goodbye Road Ahead

Today we had our final Road Ahead day.  We ended the course by finding out about things that are available for people to do in Sefton.

The first session was run by Mike Howlett from Sefton CVS volunteering.  Mike told the group about what they can get out of volunteering and ran some exercises, such as asking which organisations take volunteers and which don’t.  He also explained about how much you can volunteer if you are claiming benefits and what it takes to be a volunteer.  Some of the group are keen to contact CVS and look into volunteering further.

After this, we took a train to Me cycle café in Ainsdale, which is run by Autism Initiatives. You can rent bikes for free here and join their cycle groups; it is also a community venue for lunches and meeting friends.

To end the day, we had a stroll around Southport and bumped into Michael, one of the People First members.

It was a great day for rounding off the Road Ahead.

‘Richard said ”I learned a lot more about my community and it gave me more confidence to get out and about.”

James commented ”It was good and I know more about volunteering now and how it can be good for you.”
