Sefton Get Involved Group – Health

On Friday 12th  May  the Sefton group of People First Merseyside held their Get Involved Group. The theme was  health  it is still really important for people with learning disabilities to know about their health and what their rights are. As Self Advocates it is important that we take control of our health.

Our meeting was held at St Josephs  in Formby we really like having meeting their as they are very  welcoming, they also gave us a talk about what they do, there are lots of things happening there and they really  want us to do more things together.

Tracy Reed from Merseycare came to talk to us about the importance of  hospital passports, we worked in groups to think about all of the information the hospital needs to know when you go into hospital.

Lesley said ” I didn’t realise the hospital need to know  so much information about us.”

We then watched a video about Annual health  checks even though we are entitled to them there are still lots of people with learning disabilities not having them and it is important that we ask for them.

Paul said” The meeting went well  I like chairing the meeting and I really enjoyed hearing all about St Josephs.”
