Our new Health First Liverpol worker, Shirley Peacock has been with us now for 2 weeks. It’s been a fantastic fortnight getting to know her and making plans for our group and our work over the next year.
Our members have said:
“She’s fun and funky.”
“She has become a friend.”
“She is lovely and she is getting to know us as members. She is good at listening to everybody.”
“The feeling Shirley gives out is a good vibe and we feel welcomed by her.”
We held an open day on 17th August and invited people to come in and meet Shirley and to tell us what they would like to see us doing in the future. It was a lovely afternoon and it was great to see so many of our friends and colleagues.
We have started talking about our health roadshows and our Health Champions have been thinking about the important health messages they would like to share. In the next couple of weeks we will be working on our presentations and games that we will use to help the people understand about good health.
We are going to be starting a regular friendship group and we will be sending out a news sheet in September to tell everybody what we will be doing and when.
We have also started an art session, today we have been making birthday cards for our friends who have birthdays coming up soon.
A really imporant part of good health is healthy eating. We are planning to start a cookery club so that we can learn how to make simple but healthy recipes. This is really exciting and something we had wanted to do for a long time.
We are really excited about all of these new ideas and can’t wait to get cracking.
Geraldine said “People First has really helped me with self esteem, I have made lots of lovely friends.”
Shirley Jones said “I enjoy the company, we all have disabilities but no one is treated any different you just see the person.”
A parent who came to our open day said “You really make a difference I would have been lost without all of the support you have given.”
