Sefton Members are working with The Brunswick Youth and Community Centre on a garden project. We will be working in partnership with them and Merseytravel to improve the green space outside of Oriel Road train Station.
The plan is to create flower displays and grow fruit and vegetables in the raise beds to give people the chance to see where some of our foods come from and how it is grown.
What we grow will be used as part of our health champions project to make healthy nutritious meals, some of it will be donated to those who need it and the rest can be picked by the commuters using the station.
Our members are working hard to get ready, yesterday Paul, Lesley and Emma went along to The Brunswick Centre and met with Lorraine who is their youth and community worker and Peter who is their volunteer who works on the gardens at the centre.
Yesterday we planted seeds and put them in the poly tunnel ready to plant them out when it gets warmer, we planted flowers yesterday, previously Lesley and Simon have planted tomatoes, potatoes and cauliflowers and when we went yesterday they had started to grow and we could see the shoots coming out through the soil.
Everyone is really looking forward to when things start to grow.
