On Friday 9th October, the night we have all been waiting for finally arrived – Our Adelphi Gala Dinner.
We had been looking forward to it since we started planning it in April. It is such a fantastic night and one of the highlights of our year.
As the clock struck 7.00pm everyone started to arrive – it was lovely to see how much effort people went to, getting their hair, nails and make up done and buying new dresses or suits. Everyone looked so glamorous.
On arrival everyone had a glass of bucks fizz while they mingled in the Adelphi lounge. At 7.30pm it was time for dinner, we all went in and found our tables. Dinner was really lovely, we had vegetable soup to start, our main course was roast lamb in a red wine and Madeira sauce followed by a delicious triple chocolate mousse. The meal ended with coffee and mints.
As we came to the end of our meals, the ‘In Another Place’ gospel choir came on stage to start off the entertainment. They treated us to 5 wonderful songs. They were then joined by People First Merseyside’s very own ‘Friends and Voices’ choir. Both choirs gave us amazing renditions of ‘Happy’ and ‘Don’t you worry child’. To finish off we heard a selection of solos performed by Steph from ‘In Another Place’ choir and Phil, Geraldine, Lewis, Rebecca, Katrina Alex and Sarah from ‘The Friends and Voices’ Choir. It was wonderful to see how the weeks of hard work in our choir rehearsals had paid off, all of the solos were excellent.
After a quick photo of our 2 choirs together we went straight into our raffle. We had 39 brilliant prizes to give away. It was a roaring success with lots of winners – some people won more than 1 prize – it’s the luck of the draw!
After the raffle, John Scott came on stage to get the dancing started with his selection of brilliant songs. John was joined on stage by a couple of guests; Phil came up to do a duet of Rock DJ.
After all that our Line Dancing group got up and did flash mob to show off their skills, they treated us to 3 dances . They were fantastic and certainly had all the moves.
To finish the night we all got up and had a dance along at the disco. People danced until the early hours before heading off home after what was yet another successful People First Merseyside gala dinner.
If you didn’t come you missed a fantastic evening but don’t worry we are already planning to do it all again next year.» Back to News
