People First Merseyside have funding for our own choir – and we would love you – or anyone you know to get involved – if you are over 18 years old and have a learning disability and love singing – this is for you!
On Monday 1st June we had our first session with our Choir Leader Jan Cullen and it was fantastic! Jan runs the In Another Place Gospel Choir – which has over 100 members in her spare time and works as a SENCO in Sefton. Some of the group have worked with the In Another Place Gospel Choir in the past and they were absolutely amazing when they performed at our Adelphi Gala Dinner this year – we knew we wanted Jan to work with us.
On our first session we:
– did some vocal exercises to warm up our voices.
– sang in rounds in a harmony which was a lot of fun.
– practised actions, rhythmns and beats.
We are going to be performing in St George’s Hall on Saturday 11th July with the In Another Place Gospel Choir. We will be singing 2 songs so we practised those.
Each week we are going to have a karaoke king or queen session where one of our songs gets picked and we can sing the lead and everyone else sings the chorus.
Solo’s this week were:
Phil – Sweet Caroline
Lesley – Return to Sender
Derek – Yellow Submarine
We all sang Happy Birthday to Iain Jackson and we all HAD LOTS OF FUN!
“It’s made us smile more!”
“I’ve really enjoyed it”
“I’m definitely coming back next week!”
