We had a great day yesterday at The New Directions Football tournament. The day was held at Goals in Netherton and was organised by The Dunningsbridge Service.
There were teams from as far away as St Helens taking part all of whom had learning disabilities, many of them were teams that train together every week and others had been put together especially for the tournament.
We went along to spectate and to have a look at some of the stall that were there. We watched a few games and the group really enjoyed it.
Michelle and a group from Active Me came along and asked us if we would like to team up and have a friendly against one of the teams, the group decided to give it a go even though they had never played together before.
The group gave it their best and unfortunately we didn’t win our game, but we had a great time and everyone tried really hard.
In the afternoon we were asked if we wanted to take part in the knockouts as a team we said that we would.
We got lots of support from Mark and the team from Walton Sports Centre who gave us some of their players to make up a full team. Everyone had a go in goal, Paul was our star player and gave the other team a run for their money!
Our team players were; Michael, Karen, Jess, Lesley, Nicola and Paul.
To their surprise they really enjoyed it and have even said they would like to do it again.
Thanks to New Directions for a great day.
