We were asked by Options to deliver training about people with learning disabilities and relationships as part of their continuous development training for staff.
We talked about ‘What a relationship is’ we showed comparisons with people with learning disabilities and how what they say is not that different.
We looked at a case study of Michael and his life and the relationships he had growing up with learning disabilities.
We also split into groups and we asked people to think about a scenario from diferent points of view.
I think the people we trained got alot out of it, especially seeing what it is like from a self advocate perspective. The feedback we got was that they had learned a lot .
We now hope they have a different outlook about people with learning disabilties having a relationship
